You can see in the players’ faces how disappointed Atalanta are about not winning it in the end against Manchester United and missing the victory that they deserved. Here is how Duván Zapata, who scored the second Nerazzurri’s goal, and Marten de Roon comment on the match.
Duván Zapata’s post-match interview:
How irritating was it to wait for your goal to be confirmed, when you made it 2-1 and, unfortunately, it didn’t last.
“Yes, it was a very long wait. We suffered. But in the end, I was awarded. I’d be happier, if the three points were ours. But I think it’s an important point. So, we’ll focus on the next matches.”
It’s a pity because you had a victory close at hand. But you have to be happy and satisfied with you display.
“Yes, it’s a pity, like you said. We seemed to be in control of the match. We were solid defensively.I found this goal out of nowhere. Yes, you’re right we have to be satisfied and proud of our performance. We played at a high level. These matches are never easy, they are tough. They [Manchester United] have top players. They are a great team. We have to keep going with that attitude and that tempo.”
Marten de Roon’s post-match interview:
Marten, how would you comment on this match?
“We can see how disappointed you are that you didn’t manage to win and that you deserved that victory. Yes, there’s so much regret. I’m really disappointed not about our performance, not about how we faced it because we played with anger and determination. But we conceded again at the death. It was a great goal. But we were so close and deserved more. We are disappointed. Maybe, I’ll see it differently tomorrow. But for now, I think we could have been at the top of the table. There’s only one solution now. We have to win the two next games.”
You said it was balanced and that you would have played till the end.
“Yes. It was a great evening. We wanted to give a great performance and to get a great victory, and back there, when we were pegged back. It’s a pity. But we have to pick ourselves up now. We have to focus on the good things from the game, which are many. First, we play against Cagliari and then there will be the international break. And then we’ll focus on the next two Champions League matches.”
