It’s not only the joy of winning the first Champions League match at the Gewiss Stadium but a big satisfaction because Atalanta won in front of their fans and Marten de Roon is sure: “It was a good evening”.
Winning at the Gewiss Stadium in front of all your fans gives you a completely different feeling because “who’s he, who’s he?” “He’s Marten De Roon”. In the end, they dedicated a chant to you at the end of the match.
“It was a good evening. We had been looking forward to it. We missed our fans. It’s the first time we played the Champions League in Bergamo with the fans. I couldn’t ask for more. We’ve won. We played well enough. We created many chances but none of the matches is easy in this Champions League Group. I think we deserved to win tonight. Luckily, we celebrated it with the fans.”
Did you feel a lot of responsibility because you had to win this match against Young Boys?
“We wanted to win at home for once. We didn’t do very well at home in the other seasons. It was important because if you win at home, you have more chances to go through to the next round. It’s important because we’ll have more confidence going to Manchester United. Maybe we’ll be able to get an important result. But we are very happy. We want to keep on like that. Now we’ll focus on Milan first. Then there’ll be the international break. And then we’ll think about Manchester.”
