On matchday 7 of the 2021-2022 Serie A TIM, Milan win 3-2 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
It was immediately an uphill start for the Nerazzurri, as Milan broke the deadlock after 30 seconds thanks to Calabria, who needed two attempts to beat Musso. The Nerazzurri reacted to it right away but Maignan did well to save many efforts. Zapata broke away from his defender and got a shot away, but the Rossoneri goalkeeper parried the shot. Then, Malinovskyi could not make the most of the rebound as he was blocked by Tonali and Tomori cleared the strike off the line. Zappacosta’s left-foot shot on 19 minutes was beaten away from a flying Maignan. From the resulting corner, Zapata’s header was parried once again by Maignan. In the 21st minute, Tomori’s challenge on Pessina caused an injury for the Nerazzurro, who had to be subbed off: Pezzella replaced him. Milan doubled their lead in the 43rd minute through Tonali, who caught Freuler in possession and fired past Musso one-on-one.
In the second half, Gasperini subbed on Koopmeiners and then Iličić and Muriel, but it took a great save from Musso to deny Saelemaekers who nodded from close range. Leao added a third in the 78th minute after Hernandez surged forward. Zapata pulled one back on 86 minutes after he converted a penalty that was given by V.A.R. for a Messias handball on Zappacosta’s shot. Pašalić made it 2-3 from Zapata’s assist in the 94th minute but the time was up and the comeback could not be completed.
