Udinese came from behind and tied the match against Atalanta at the very end of the stoppage time. Here’s Gian Piero Gasperini post-match interview in which he comments on the 1-1 tie as well as being sent off: “Angrier about the result”.
Gian Piero Gasperini, are you angrier about the draw or for being sent off?
“More about the draw, as it takes two deserved points away from us which we had in our pocket for all game long. Despite not delivering a great performance, the team deserved to win. For my ridiculous sending off. I’ve already said in every way that these men have to put themselves out there because they’re professional too. Let them come and comment, let them explain themselves and their actions, just like us.”
It was a tough match. Udinese came to Bergamo to get a result. Atalanta’s injury crisis continues to intensify, among other things.
“Yes, but Atalanta played their game. It wasn’t easy, like in every game. The tempo wasn’t high but we were always in control of the game and always tried to attack. When we broke the deadlock, it had become easier and there were chances to finish it off. When you don’t manage to do this, there’s always the risk of being pegged back from a corner or a free kick.”
Did the biggest bitterness come from the fact that you didn’t double your lead? That would have put the game to bed.
“That’s the biggest bitterness. The biggest bitterness comes from conceding on a corner after we had done well. Beto also did well, who jumped higher than anyone. It’s not the first one he scores, he had already done others. All these things took two points away from us that was within our reach.”
Now there’s another appointment: on Wednesday against Sampdoria.
“Yes, Sampdoria on Wednesday, Lazio on Saturday and the Champions League on Tuesday. We lack for nothing.”
