Matteo Lovato: “We are very disappointed”

The match between Atalanta and Udinese ends 1-1 at the Gewiss Stadium with Udinese, as the Nerazzurri were pegged back at the very end of the stoppage time. Among the key players of the game is Matteo Lovato, who made a debut as a starter after his Wednesday’s debut at Old Trafford in the Champions League. Here’s how he comments on the tie against the Friulians: “We are very disappointed”.

Matteo Lovato, what a disappointment this tie is… Especially because Udinese tied at the death.

“Yes, we are very disappointed. But I think we can’t get depressed about it and give up because we were in control of the match for 93 minutes. I’m sorry to say that, but we lost it. So, I think we must consider those 93 minutes before the goal in the first place.”

It’s sad you didn’t manage to finish it off earlier.

“Exactly. We have many goalscoring opportunities during matches. It’s not always possible to have a good finish. But you must keep on believing and pushing, keeping always your head high and never taking a step back. You know, it happens, anyway. It’s football. It’s the good and the bad side of football.”

Matteo, these are important days for you because you played in the Champions League, you started in the match against Udinese. All in all, these days have been hectic. But you seem calm. How was it for you?

“I’m calm enough, even at my debut at Old Trafford, because I realised it afterwards, some days later. I think I realised it only two-three days ago. And I said: “Wow!” I made my debut at Old Trafford. We were disappointed there, too. But you have to live it as it is, for the emotions you get to have, and for the pleasure of playing football. To play in the Champions League was my dream that came true, at that stadium. Actually, it wasn’t only my dream but, unfortunately, it was a dream of one person who’s no longer with us and was dear to me, so I did it for him and for the people that love and support me. And I did it for me as well, after I realised it.”
