Here are the post-match interviews with Luis Muriel, who bagged two out of the three goals scored by Atalanta against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and captain Rafael Toloi.
Luis Muriel
Luis Muriel, what a win of such a great Atalanta side at the Gewiss Stadium. We needed it.
“Yes, we needed a win like this. After, perhaps, a start that wasn’t very good. We managed to come from behind right away, to put in a great performance. This performance must be our starting point that makes us want to end the season the way we played today.”
You came from behind after a complicated start. You also scored an amazing brace.
“It’s always good to score and to help the team. It was also an important match for me, it was important for me to score and deliver a good display. I think tonight was the perfect night. Maybe, we could have got more goals. But it was an important result and an important performance for us. I think if we play this way in the return leg, we have all the chances.”
You have two possible results at hand as you won tonight. What will be important to do in the return leg in Germany?
“It will be important to show what we did today. I think the most important thing to do is to show quality, strength and grit that we showed today, the desire to win and to do. It was important today, it will be very important in the return leg too.”
Rafael Toloi
Rafael Toloi, what an amazing performance!
“Yes. It’s an amazing and important win as we were aware that the match would be difficult. We faced a top-quality team that play at a high speed and manage the ball well. We knew it was important to defend well and to play with quality. It was a great performance. We achieved what we wanted to, we have an advantage in the next match. Now we’ll focus on the league. On Sunday we host Genoa which will be another very difficult match. And then we’ll have the second leg when we’ll have to put in a great performance in Germany to go through.”
After having a complicated start you managed to come from behind, showing great performance, playing at a high speed and scoring great goals.
“Yes. As I said, they have great quality. They have strong and fast young players, who play well technically. But we defended well and created many chances. We could have scored a fourth goal. But it went this way. We interpreted it well, we put in a great performance. We’re happy with the result. We have a little advantage for the return leg. But now we’ll focus on the league.”
On Sunday you host Genoa. It will be important to do well in the league, too.
“Yes, it’s important. We must get back to winning ways in the league. Genoa are doing very fine. They didn’t manage to win the last matches but they drew all the last matches if I’m not mistaken. They play with great intensity. They’re doing well and caused difficulties to every team. So, it will be a very difficult match in which we have to do well. We’ll have to put in a great performance to get a result.”
