The German side Bayer 04 Leverkusen will be Atalanta’s opponents in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 after the draw that took place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

The Round of 16 will also be a two-legged tie: the first leg is scheduled for 10 March at the Gewiss Stadium, while the return leg is to take place in Germany on 17 March.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen sit third in the German Bundesliga on 41 points, which they won within 23 matchdays. The German side won the qualification for the Round of 16 after topping their group and leaving behind Real Betis, Celtic and Ferencvaros. The club has won one DFB-Pokal (German Cup) and one UEFA Cup (1987-1988). Bayer also finished runner-up in the 2001–2002 UEFA Champions League.
