First evaluations for the Nerazzurri defender Cristian Romero, who has been with Atalanta since the first days of September. “Atalanta was the right choice” stated the young Argentinian who added that he immediately felt part of the team and that he felt comfortable in Bergamo, where he lives with his wife. And Cuti, this is his nickname, has already entered the hearts of the fans.
After two months and a half, how are you doing at Atalanta?
“Good. I’m very happy to be here. Not only I found a fantastic group, but also the team and the people working here. They’re fantastic, I’m doing very well, I’m comfortable here. They made me feel part of the group since day one, I’m really happy”.
You’re living in Bergamo with your wife, as you both moved here, what does she think about Bergamo?
“She hasn’t gone around Bergamo much so far, because of what we’re going through, and we don’t know many people. Once I went with Papu who took me around the city, I know it a bit and it’s beautiful, it’s so quiet. I like this location and my wife is very happy as well”.
You made your Atalanta debut in the league but you also made your Champions League debut.
“Yes, it was my goal for this season, so I think again it was the right choice for me to join Atalanta to continue to grow, to stand out. The coach and the club made me feel one of them since day one. This is nice. I’m very happy with my Champions League debut and my Atalanta debut in Serie A. I’m really glad, hopefully I can continue playing as in these last games, I’m happy”.
You don’t talk much, but you make yourself understood and the fans like you more and more, as you give answers on the pitch, as you show your strength.
“My friends who play football for great teams always tell me that this helps me, but I don’t really like talking too much off the pitch, I don’t like talking about anything, I’m a bit introverted in this respect, but I think I’ve been doing well so far. Still a lot is missing, I must continue like this. I know it’s difficult to maintain a high level [of my performance], but I have to work and learn what the coach wants to always do well”.
You answer on the pitch, so let’s talk about the last match you played: you had to mark Lautaro first, then Lukaku. Two heavyweights.
“They are, for sure, two of the strongest strikers I’ve ever marked, together with Tadic of Ajax. They’re very strong. For this reason, I have to work a lot, as there are many big teams that we still have to face, so I have to be 100% to put in another great performance like against Inter”.
The games are behind closed doors, but you are increasingly entering the heart of the fans.
“Hopefully I can continue like this. I know I must get better at many things, but the Atalanta fans always write me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Knowing that I am entering the hearts of the fans is amazing, so I have to continue on this path, working harder. I’m happy”.
