Atalanta lost to Cagliari at the Gewiss Stadium. The Nerazzurri managed to equalise after the Rossoblù had taken the lead, but then conceded the second one from the Sardinians and didn’t manage to pull another one back. This is how Remo Freuler commented on the match: “We must be more clear-headed”.
Remo Freuler, everything happened in the second half. To say, you started off on the right foot.
“Yes, the second half, too, as well as the first half and the first 20 minutes. Then, in the second half, we had two goalscoring chances right away. But we didn’t score. And then there were those two incidents that made us lose ground. But we came from behind and made it 1-1. But in the end, it was us to concede on the counterattack, with a man down. We have to work on these things.”
You are always very critical of yourself, analysing the match and saying that you can’t concede a goal like this. To your mind, what didn’t work out today?
“We didn’t break the deadlock, because we dominated for 50 minutes until we went down to 10 men. We must break the deadlock in such matches, be more clear-headed in front of the net. We must score the opener. We must put an end to the thing that we can’t win home matches any longer and clear our minds and play independently of that”.
You’re playing three consecutive home matches now. So, you have to reset.
“Yes, that’s why I’m saying this. The next matches will be at home and they are very important. That’s we must change immediately our mindset at home as well. Even if I think we had the right mindset because we recovered the ball many times, we had the chances but we didn’t break the deadlock. You have to reset.”
You have to think to be the Atalanta side playing away. Can it be enough?
“I don’t know. Maybe [it’s enough] to win. It’s difficult to comment on such matches, but we must really start winning our home matches because these are defeats that hurt a lot and make us lose ground. As we’re still in the running for a Champions League spot and we’re all packed. So, we can’t throw these points away”.
