The awakening was bitter-sweet, sweet because Atalanta played the best season in their history, bitter because the Champions League journey stopped a step away from qualifying for the semifinals. President Percassi only requires a few words to comment on this wonderful season: “We are proud”.

“Honestly, I haven’t slept much. But we’re happy with how things went anyway”.

It was a bitter sweet awakening, but we’re aware that Atalanta did something amazing, we can say that, as they had a proper chance in the quarter-finals.

“It was unimaginable, we said that all the time. Although we played a great match, it’s a pity because we were winning until the 90th minute, but then, against star players and some injuries that we sustained in the last part of the game penalised us. Yet, we must be proud of the result and the performance we delivered”.

Bergamo and the Bergamaschi, the Atalanta fans and even non-Atalanta fans are proud of this team, of Atalanta.

“Yes, I read all the newspaper and everyone is speaking well of Atalanta. We also represented a community that suffered a lot, I believe that Atalanta did good today. It’s a pity, we failed at the last mile”.

President, it’s today but we look to the future. Hence, it’s Atalanta that prepare themselves for the 20/21 season and all the projects that Atalanta have, as Atalanta are taken as an example as a team on the pitch, but also as a team off the pitch, as entrepreneurs who invested and are renovating the stadium, for example. They’re admired by everybody. Atalanta are an example also in this respect.

“There are many things to do. There are open building sites and we’ll open new ones. We have a plan of improvements for the stadium and for Zingonia over the next 3 years. The machine is moving”.

President, there has been a lot of talk about it in the last few days: Atalanta in the Champions League, Atalanta will try to play it at the Gewiss Stadium.

“We are doing everything we can. I think we’ll probably make it”.

President, what did you tell the team in the night-closing speech?

“[I told them that] they were amazing, sensational, professionals, all of them were extremely good. The technical staff as well, but also all the people that are working with Atalanta, from the warehouse worker to the employee. It’s fundamental for us, it’s a family and above all a family made of good people, who have a lot of passion for Atalanta, and who are very serious people”.
