The Nerazzurri fans voted for Aleksey Miranchuk as the Player of the Month for January!
In the fourth edition of the initiative in collaboration with ItalianOptic, the Russian player won over Cristian Romero in the head-to-head battle on the Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Nerazzurri social accounts. These two Atalanta players received most votes at the end of the first round in which the Nerazzurri were able to choose their favourite player among the footballer of the First team who took part in at least one match of the month.
Miranchuk is the fourth winner of this contest (besides Zapata, Gosens and Muriel), which shows the decisiveness and the constant support of the whole team during all the season. Number 59 of the Nerazzurri has been on the field for 300′ in January. He demonstrated himself as a leader, in particular in the Coppa Italia, scoring two decisive goals in the Round of 16 and in the quarter-final. The first goal was a brilliant left-foot volley which broke the deadlock against Cagliari. He scored the second one against Lazio, making it 3-2 and sealing the victory for Atalanta.
We certainly have to mention Cuti Romero, the key player of some sensational performances: one of them was in the match at the Meazza Stadium against Milan (a goal and an assist) – and, for the second time this season, he finished second in the contest.
Miranchuk has also set a curious record: the Russian midfielder has scored on his debut in all three competitions in which he took part with the Atalanta shirt. In addition to scoring against Cagliari in his first match in the Coppa Italia, Aleksey scored in Herning against Midtjylland on his overall debut for the Nerazzurri and the equalizer against Inter in his Serie A debut.
Congrats, Lesha!
