Inter-Atalanta ended 2-2 and it was an emotion-filled match and turnarounds. In short, it was an intense and fun game, not only for those who watched it but also for those who featured in it, as Matteo Pessina confirmed: “These games give you a lot”.
Matteo, we also asked Gian Piero Gasperini about this: is it a point gained or two dropped?
“Well, it depends. If you had asked me before Dimarco’s penalty, I would have told you one thing, in the end maybe another. That’s football. It went like this. We took a point away from the champions of Italy. And that’s fine, we’re happy.”
People enjoyed this match, as it was a good and thrilling match. What about you?
“We enjoyed it a lot. These games give you so much, you always give something extra in stadiums of this kind. We wanted to win, we tried it in every way. We enjoyed ourselves and entertained [the people watching]. I think that’s the best thing and the main thing in football.”
The Atalanta side we all know is slowly coming back.
“Yes, by now you know that we always have a slow start. It takes a while for us to take off and find our plays again. Because after a long time that you don’t play, you lose them and even your physical condition drops off. After the retreat, when you work hard, it takes a while to regain some confidence in your game. That’s it. We’re gradually getting it back. We’re scoring again, but we have to score more of them and get even more wins.”
What did you like the most about Atalanta this evening?
“I liked how we celebrated after Piccoli’s goal, all together. Even if it was a bit useless, as they ruled it out. But I liked the attitude. We were never scared. We pressed them high.”
Also because they took an early lead, so it was an uphill start.
“Exactly, it wasn’t easy. We kept on playing, even better. We did even better until the end of the first half, we were very aggressive on every ball they were trying to play. We caused problems for them with our position between the lines. We managed to get many shots on goal. We could have scored one more goal in the first half maybe. But that’s how it went, we scored two and took the lead. And it is what it is.”
This was a good business card ahead of Wednesday’s UCL match.
“Yes, ahead of Wednesday and Sunday. These are two important matches. We’ll have to face them the same way as we have been doing lately. We know it’s going to be a very difficult game, having seen what they did in the opening match. The Champions League matches get ready on their own. When you get to play this sort of match, it’s unique. We want to win for Bergamo, for everybody and all of us.”
