It’s a great pity the Nerazzurri suffered a defeat against Milan at home, at the Gewiss Stadium, as they conceded a goal right away. That’s how Marten de Roon commented on the match: “We had a bad start”.
Marten, you tried it all and believed until over the 90th minute.
“Yes, but we had a bad start when you concede after 35 seconds, while, in the dressing room, we were talking about getting a good start. The match gets more complicated straight away. Then we made other attempts. We tried to create some opportunities. I think we caused Milan some difficulties but they are a strong team who can always score. They were better than us at scoring. We played, had more possession of the ball but, in the end, you have to score to win or to tie a game.”
Of course, a start like that put you at a disadvantage. Everything you planned has to change drastically. It ruins everything.
“You immediately have to trail. It’s difficult because when you take the lead, the match is different. When we go behind, we leave spaces. It becomes easier for them, I think. We tried everything, but we weren’t solid enough to straighten the game out.”
Let’s say that the team never gives up. It’s one of the positive sides.
“Sure. We always try to straighten the game out. We believed in it. In the second half, we tried to make it 1-2. We tried again even after 0-3. But 0-3 with only 10 minutes left against a great Milan side, who are playing very well… It was very difficult but we have to fix some things. We’re going on the international break now. Then, afterwards, we must come back even stronger.”
