Atalanta bounced back after trailing by two goals in the middle of the second half, as the team kept on believing and, in the end, tied the clash with Torino, which was the rearranged fixture of Serie A TIM Matchday 20. Marten de Roon scored an incredible goal and commented on the match in the post-match interview: “Luckily, we didn’t lose”.
Marten de Roon, many things happened in this match.
“I agree. Luckily, we didn’t lose. It was the most important thing. I think it was an entertaining match for the public. But we’re disappointed as we missed the opportunity to get closer to the European spots. In the end, we’re happy with one point after we were 4-2 down. We showed the spirit [of Atalanta] in the final 20 minutes. We showed our strength. We must keep on like that”.
Losing 2-4 with an unlucky own goal could have taken the wind out of your sails… You gave it your all, instead and made it 4-4. You tried to win the game.
“Yes. In the last matches, it was hard for us to pull together, bounce back and equalise. But today we gave it our all. We managed to equalise at least. I saw the spirit [of the lads] after making it 4-4. We wanted to win. We pushed hard in the final 5-6 minutes. Moreover, Zappacosta had a goal-scoring opportunity at the end of the match. But you also need some luck. It’s a pity it ended 4-4. But after losing for 75 minutes like that… The spirit we had [in the final minutes] will be of help for the next matches”.
What a goal you scored!
“Well, I have to watch it again. I met it perfectly. I kicked really hard, I didn’t expect Lucho to take the corner short. But I kept on playing and didn’t think. I kicked hard. I don’t think the goalkeeper saw the ball. Hans told me that [the ball] passed near his face. But he managed to avoid it. I’m happy with the goal. I’d preferred to win instead of scoring. At least, I could help the team”.
