On matchday 3 of the 2022-2023 Serie A TIM, Atalanta seal the three points at the Stadio Bentegodi in Verona as Koopmeiners scored the decisive goal in the second half.
The first half was balanced, with neither goalkeeper making important saves. Lasagna had an attempt wide on 14 minutes and Ilic had another off target in the 40th minute, while on the other end, Lookman’s finish was beaten away by Montipò. Gasperini made two substitutions in the second half to change the team and there was immediately an Éderson chance, who shot from distance. The breakthrough arrived in the 50th minute when de Roon assisted Koopmeiners, who hit a left-foot scorcher from 25 metres out into the bottom corner. Hellas Verona were dangerous in the 63rd minute when Lazovic’s great shot smacked the crossbar, but Malinovskyi responded to it with an effort that was parried by Montipò’s foot. Verona’s goalkeeper was decisive again in the 75th minute as he pulled off a great save on Zortea’s finish. In the 86th minute, Muriel sent through Toloi, who almost doubled Atalanta’s lead but Montipò denied him and Éderson fired over from the edge of the box in the 88th minute. Hellas Verona pushed hard looking for an equaliser in the final minutes and Musso had to fingertip a tricky Lazovic cross-shot over the bar in the 90th minute. However, the 0-1 scoreline lasted until the final whistle and this way Atalanta claimed an important win that take them to seven points on the table.
