The Brazilian Ederson’s early hours as an Atalanta player were particularly intense for the young midfielder, who is also celebrating his 23rd birthday tomorrow.

After putting pen to paper on the deal in the presence of CEO Luca Percassi, he gave the first official interview: here are his first words as an Atalanta player.

It only took him a few months to stand out, a few months to catch Atalanta’s attention, who strongly wanted him.

“I was very happy with the offer at first, as this is a great club. We were sure that we would reach an agreement because we knew it was a great club, which wants to achieve great things. I am very happy to have joined this great club. The first impression was great. As soon as I entered the dressing room everyone wished me luck and welcomed me. I am so happy with everything”.

The Nerazzurri fans have already seen him at work. At the Gewiss Stadium he scored the opener for Salernitana, giving them the lead. It ended 1-1.

“My features are the ability to keep the ball at my feet, and the strength. I can play both defensive and attacking football. I find it easy to attack the space, as I did against Atalanta, that’s how I scored. I saw that some space was opening up and that my teammate was coming, I attacked the space and had the opportunity and happiness to score”.

He’ll also be wearing the shirt number 13 in Bergamo, as it is a special number for him.

“I get this question a lot, it’s because my wife asked me to use it because she was born on the 13th of July. She feels good about this number, it has brought her luck since childhood. She asked me to use it in other teams and I did not use it. When I went to Fortaleza I started to use it and I was very happy there. I had good stats and scored goals. It was a great time in my career, that’s why I’m keeping this number. Today I also have a tattoo with the number 13, for her, because she is my lucky charm and 13 is a lucky number for both of us”.

He’s ready to work hard, to grind under the stewardship of Gian Piero Gasperini. 

“Yes, I’m ready and happy because the more the coach works, the more it motivates me. I am a physical player, I need to be fit now to help the team. I will work hard to be ready. I will need all of this because we will have important fixtures from the very beginning”.

He has a clear idea of what he wants to achieve. 

“First of all, I would like to return to the Champions League. When we started negotiating, it was one of our goals, my dream is to play in the Champions League. When they told me this, I was even happier and more motivated. The club wants to get back into the Champions League, they should be in it this year too because they are a great team. I think that’s the main goal. I want to help Atalanta to win trophies and return to the UCL”. 

While waiting to meet them in person, he wanted to greet his new fans.
