It was a difficult match against Salernitana, as the hosts tested Atalanta, who managed to take the lead in the 75th minute. Goal achieved, as the Nerazzurri wing-back Davide Zappacosta confirmed: “We wanted the three points”. Here is the full interview.
Davide Zappacosta, Atalanta have everything to lose in these matches, as they’re ‘forced’ to win. And Salernitana also wanted to score their first points of the season.
“Yes, Atalanta have got everything to lose in these matches, as these are matches to win, in which you have to get three points, especially in our situation. We had a slow start. We wanted to bring three points home, but it’s never easy to play these teams with this crowd. So, we’re happy. Now we have to work and try to improve.”
Davide, there are no excuses, but it was hot, you are fresh from a very demanding Champions League match. There are no excuses but these things affect a match.
“Yes, of course. It’s not easy to play every three days, especially when you come from an intense game like the one in Villarreal. It was very hot, it was a very difficult match, with a high level of concentration and technique. Then you come back, you stay in Bergamo for one day and then travel to Salerno. Certainly, it’s not easy. But we have to try to go beyond this. There are no excuses, we have to try to always give our best, as we know it’s like this. We know there will be many matches and fatigue can’t be an excuse.”
Zapata broke the deadlock, you all rushed towards him. And Atalanta could have finished it off. What did Davide Zappacosta think one-on-one with the goal?
“I only thought not to shoot it straight at the goalkeeper as he rushed towards me but I turned it wide. And I’m sorry because we struggled a lot in this match and I could have killed it off. So, I’m more sorry for the team than for myself. Luckily, we won it. I’ll try to move on and work hard not to miss these chances again.”
