Atalanta’s journey in the 2021-2022 Coppa Italia Frecciarossa ends in the quarter-finals, as Fiorentina win 3-2 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo with a goal at the death.
The deadlock was broken by Piatek from the spot in the 9th minute, as Fiorentina were awarded a penalty after a VAR check. Zappacosta brought things level at the half-hour mark after with a wonderful right-foot curler into the far top corner. The Nerazzurri almost took the lead through Boga in stoppages, as his deflected finish hit the post. The 2-1 goal arrived anyway in the 56th minute, with Boga’s first goal for Atalanta, who burst past two defenders and fired into the far bottom corner. Fiorentina were awarded another penalty in the 71st minute, which Musso first saved, but Piatek then turned the rebound in. Zappaccosta smashed the bar on 78 minutes and one minute later, then the Viola went down to 10 as Quarta was sent off after receiving a second bookable offence for tripping Muriel. Djimsiti almost scored the winner on 92 minutes with a header inches wide. However, when the game seemed to be heading to extra time, Fiorentina found the winning goal with Milenkovic scoring at the death.
