Atalanta got back to winning ways and did it at the Gewiss Stadium where, this year, in the League, had scored three points only against Sassuolo. The match against Spezia started badly but then Atalanta played the way they usually do and killed the game off, winning 5-2. Berat Djimsiti addressed a special thought to the Atalanta supporters: “Victory for the fans”.
You had to win and you won. You had a good start to this tour de force that will last until Christmas.
“Yes. We wanted to play the way we did today. We are very happy, especially with the result and with the win because it wasn’t easy to come back after the [international] break. Many players were called up for international duty. I stayed here with only a few players to train.”
It was a different experience for you because you usually go on the international break, too.
“Yes. I think it was the first time and it was tough. It was good for me. I trained a lot and got back into shape. It was very important for me to start after so long. I was absent for more than a month. I’m very happy with the result.”
Now Djimsiti is doing well, he’s recovered well. The fracture is healed.
“Yes, I feel well. I think you could see it on the pitch. I always try to do my best. Like all my teammates, I wanted to prove that we could win at home, too. It was very important to prove it to everyone. We all had been thinking about it. We had a poor start. But our team have character.”
That Spezia’s side frightened you at first with the first goal. Then you drew with confidence, which is typical of Atalanta, and then you dominated.
“Spezia had prepared very well for this match. You could see that. In the beginning, we struggled to find our style of play or a way to press. We got used [to their style] little by little. We got the hang of it. I think, in the end, we played the way Atalanta usually do.”
And finally, you won at home. As you previously said. You are more used to winning far away from the Gewiss Stadium rather than at home.
“Yes, we all had been waiting for this victory. We have to score more points at home. We’d like to dedicate this victory to our fans. They can finally enjoy a home victory.”
