ANTONIO PERCASSI, FROM B TO THE CHAMPIONS

It was the 3rd June 2010 when Antonio Percassi took the majority stake and after 16 years returned to be the president of Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio.

Great passion and great love for the club, which saw him first grow in their youth sector, making his debut with the First Team until he became the captain.

Antonio Percassi’s choices are moved by his heart and in this new Nerazzurri experience he is flanked by his family, his children, in particular by Luca, who became CEO of the club.

Telling these 10 years of Percassi presidency is not easy, or maybe yes:

it would be enough to say that from 2010 to today it has been a real crescendo of results and achievements reached, and therefore of emotions, satisfaction and memories.

 No, it’s not enough.

All this must be celebrated and the list is really long.

From the immediate promotion to Serie A at the end of the 2010/2011 season,

to the nine consecutive championships played in the top flight.

And playing 9 Serie A tournaments, one after the other, is not an everyday thing.

In fact, it hasn’t happened since 1969, they were 10 in a row then, third time in history after the historic record streak of 15 from ’40 to ’58.

However, if the ninth is in progress, the tenth is around the corner.

Humility and awareness of their limits and a fair ambition led Atalanta to achieve new prestigious goals, which rewrote history.

For example, the 72-point record set at the end of the 2016/2017 season or the 3rd place achieved at the end of the 2018/2019 Serie A campaign, best ever finish in the top league.

And if the points record coincided with Atalanta’s Europa League qualification,

returning to play an international competition after 26 years,

winning their group unbeaten,

the 3rd place in Serie A opened the doors of the UEFA Champions League to the Nerazzurri,

one of the most important international club competitions

and after coming through the group stage,

the Nerazzurri punched the quarter-finals ticket, a dream.

Such important results are also achieved thanks to the opportunity to have high-level facilities available, where you can work and train.

For this reason, the Bortolotti Training Centre, Atalanta headquarter, has literally changed its face, becoming bigger, greener and more technological.

The teams from the Nerazzurri youth Academy, who have always been the pride of the club, also train in Zingonia,

also thanks to Antonio Percassi’s foresight.

In these 10 years, the Academy teams have won 4 Scudetti:

Primavera, Berretti, U17 and U15 and 2 Supercups,

and every season there are many players from the youth Academy that are called up to their category national teams.

More pitches to train on, and, within the Bortolotti Training Centre, a venue entirely for the youth Academy,

named after Mino Favini, which is a tribute of the Percassi family to the talent scout par excellence who died in 2019.

President Percassi did not limit himself to making the Bortolotti Training Centre an international excellence, he also invested in the stadium.

Since the 17th of October 2017, coincidence and curiosity on the same day in which it was founded, Atalanta became one of the few companies in Italy to own the stadium in which they play.

In the summer of 2019, the renovation works of the Gewiss Stadium began.

The imposing new Curva Nord Pisani was inaugurated on 6 October.

Work on the Tribuna UBI Banca is scheduled for summer 2020.

The works will then be completed with the remaking of the Curva Sud Morosini.

At the end of it, the Gewiss Stadium will be a real gem.

As regards the awards, we point out the CONI golden collar for sporting merit received in December 2018.

Atalanta became a member of the ECA – European Club Association – on 9 September 2019, while in May 2020 President Percassi joined the Hall of Fame of Italian football.

Atalanta, Bergamo and its people, its fans, for the youngest, to make them fond of the Nerazzurri colours, President Percassi strongly wanted the “Progetto Neonati Atalantini” (Newborn Atalantini Project).

All those born in hospitals in Bergamo and provinces are given the Atalanta shirt, ad-hoc made.

For those born outside the Bergamo area, they can still apply, as the project’s shirts have been shipped not only throughout Italy, but also in the world and shipments continue.

President Percassi never fails to get emotional in front of his fans: it happened in Dortmund, in front of more than 8000 Atalanta fans.

It happened in Rome, during the Coppa Italia final, in front of 23000 Nerazzurri fans.

The feeling of loving the same colours, of suffering and rejoicing for Atalanta.

Thank you President for these first intense and exciting 10 years.

Thank you.
