Robin Gosens’ 2020-2021 season was the best ever from a scoring point of view, it is no coincidence that he was the third team goalscorer despite not being a striker. But the German wingback’s season is certainly not only weighed in the goals he scored: 44 games played in all competitions (32 in Serie A TIM, 7 in the UEFA Champions League, 5 in the Coppa Italia), 12 goals scored and 8 assists provided.
He finished the season having scored 10+ goals for the second consecutive year. With 11 goals scored, he also broke his record in the league: the goal that opened the scoring in the 4-1 victory at Lazio, but also the temporary 2-1 scoreline in the 4-1 victory over Roma and in the 4-2 win over Napoli are worth mentioning. For the first time in his career, he also scored in three consecutive league games: it happened between matchday 23 and 25, in the games against Napoli, Sampdoria and Crotone. But the goal that finished the game off in the magical night at Anfield, which was the second goal against Liverpool in the Champions League, stands out. A fun fact: with three goals scored, he is among the deadliest scorers of headers in Serie A (fourth in the overall ranking).
Then the official Lega Serie A statistics about the league: 2,637 minutes played, 9.995 km run on average per game, 52 shots taken (fifth in the team ranking), 31 goalscoring chances created (third in the team ranking), 8 key passes, 143 ball recoveries, 26 fouls suffered.
Finally, the important personal goals achieved by Robin. His season began with his first call-up to the Germany national team, which was completed with an assist on his debut in the UEFA Nations League match against Spain. Then, he made his 100th appearance in Serie A with the Club in the 3-3 draw against Torino, but he also got the satisfaction of winning the November Player of the Month award given by the votes of the Nerazzurri fans on our official social accounts and having been included in the Top 11 of the 2019/20 season by AIC (Italian Footballers’ Association).
At the end of the season, he also scored his first international goal in the 7-1 friendly win over Latvia and participated in the European Championships in which he scored another goal, provided two assists and delivered a superlative performance in the 4-2 win over Portugal.
