2020-2021 review: Josip Iličić

The goal in the magical night at Anfield and then the usual amount of assists. There were moments to remember in the 2020-2021 season of Josip Iličić, the best Nerazzurri player for key passes in the league: 38 games played in all competitions (28 in the Serie A TIM, 6 in the UEFA Champions League, 4 in the Coppa Italia), 7 goals scored and 11 assists provided. When he scored, Atalanta always scored points, that is six wins and a draw in the mini-haul. He scored one goal in the Champions League, but it was very important, as it was the first in the historic 2-0 victory at Liverpool. In the league, among others, he scored the goals that sealed the 4-1 win over Roma and secured the victory at the Meazza over Milan (he put his name on the second of the three Nerazzurri goals). He also scored the winner in the 3-2 win away to Fiorentina, which was fundamental at that moment in the race for the Champions League. And then many assists, with a series of six consecutive from matchday 13 to 17.

Then the official Lega Serie A statistics about the league: 1586 minutes played, 7.24 km run on average per game, 57 shots taken, 18 goalscoring chances created, 35 key passes (first in the team ranking, second overall in Serie A), 65 fouls suffered (first in the team ranking).

Finally, the personal goals achieved by the Professor this season were: the 300th Serie A match which coincided with the 3-0 win over Parma in Bergamo and the 100th Nerazzurro game in the top flight reached in the 1-1 draw at Udine.
