Atalanta claim their second away win in as many matches. Thanks to their draw with Milan, the team’s points in the standings have become 7. Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini is pragmatic: “No game is easy in Serie A”.
Gian Piero Gasperini, it’s never easy to win a game, let alone win in Verona. Nevertheless, Atalanta brought home three points.
“No game is easy in Serie A, whether at home or away. We won and the best thing is that we got the three points but also the spirit in the team. They’re commendable in this respect”.
The second half was better than the first one.
“The first half was bad. We held out and defended well, they [Hellas Verona] never threatened actually, but we did very little. The second half was better. Then many spaces opened up and the game should have ended with another scoreline, [but we didn’t make the most of it] and in doing so, we risked conceding the equaliser”.
You started Soppy, while Lookman had already made his debut and Éderson made his first appearance for the team.
“Yes, he immediately showed some quality but he’s not in his best shape. He has to regain the condition he had before his injury. Soppy also did well, no doubt even if he was booked. The game could have been at risk. I had to make a substitution anyway to change the system. He showed some good things though. It’s fine”.
Now there’s a midweek game. Atalanta v Torino will take place at the Gewiss Stadium and the two teams are tied on points.
“Yes, Torino are a team on the rise, they are already doing well. I had no doubts in this respect. They are similar to us in some respects. It’ll be a good test. If we manage to win these types of games… We for sure have to grow, and matches like today’s are a good opportunity to show you what you need to improve”.
