Atalanta’s second international pre-season friendly is here, as on 6 August the Nerazzurri will be on the pitch of the stadium Mestalla to face Valencia in the Naranja Trophy. The kick-off is at 21:00 CEST.
This will be the Nerazzurri’s second participation in the prestigious trophy organized by the Spanish club, now in its 50th edition, after the previous one on 11 August 2017, in which Atalanta sealed the 2-1 win through Toloi and Palomino.
The memory of the double tie in the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League is also linked to Valencia, which saw the Nerazzurri qualifying for the quarter-finals after clinching two wins, a 4-1 victory in the 1st leg at the stadium Meazza in Milan on 19 February 2020 and a 4-3 victory in the return leg at the Mestalla on 10 March.
Valencia, who will be coached by the Italian manager Gennaro Gattuso next season, are a Spanish club from the South-East coast. In its century-old history, they have won six Spanish league titles, eight Copa del Rey titles, one Supercopa de España, and one Copa Eva Duarte. Their international palmarès is rich too, as they have won one UEFA Cup, one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups and two UEFA Super Cups.
They finished their latest Spanish Liga campaign in ninth place on 48 points and came close to winning their ninth Copa del Rey title, only losing on penalties in the final to Betis Sevilla.
