After winning 3-4 after extra-time away to Pisa, Monza got a promotion to the 2022/23 Serie A: this will be their very first appearance in the first tier of Italian football. The Brianza side join newly-promoted Lecce and Cremonese, as they replaced relegated Venezia, Genoa and Cagliari.
As Cremonese and Monza have joined up with Atalanta, Inter and Milan, the 2022/23 Serie A will have again 5 sides based in Lombardy for the first time since the 2002/03 season. In the 1967/68 Serie A there were even 6 Lombard sides out of 16 in total: Atalanta, Brescia, Inter, Mantova, Milan and Varese.
