The rearranged fixture of Matchday 20 against Torino ended in a 4-4 tie at the #GewissStadium: the Nerazzurri had to come from behind in the middle of the second half after trailing by two goals. The team never gave up and as the assistant coach Tullio Gritti said after the match: “We’ll give it our all till the end”.
Tullio Gritti, did you waste an opportunity?
“Yes. It’s a wasted opportunity. We had a bad start, although there was a foul on Djimsiti on the first goal. We’ve never been able to see clear footage of it and it seems odd to me that we have 100 cameras on the pitch and when something happens, we can’t look closely at it, all images are wide shots. Then we turned it around. The penalty for Remo [Freuler]’s challenge was a real stretch. It’s one of those penalties that you wouldn’t award if you reviewed it. But they’re not reviewing it anymore. We levelled up the match immediately. Then we played well against a side that have created some problems for us, as they’re a good team. Then when we were 4-2 down, we had an amazing reaction. Our reaction was great. And we could have brought it home, as the final two chances were ours. Unfortunately, incidents are penalizing us too much, sometimes it’s someone’s fault, sometimes it’s ours. Unfortunately, this has been the leitmotif of the season at home”.
The bright side is the grit that Atalanta have shown when they were trailing by two goals.
“The lads did excellently. They did great because they manage to go over [difficulties], and turn it around against a team that have grit, run fast and have quality, who have created problems for many teams, even top-ranked sides. We managed to do so after trailing by two goals. It was incredible. The lads showed great attachment to the team, the city and the fans, who supported them until the end. They showed great quality and proved to be in a good shape. Unfortunately, as I said earlier, incidents weren’t in our favour”.
There are still four games to play. You’re still within touching distance of the European spots.
“All we need to do is win all four games! Certainly, we’ll try to do so. I think it’s within our grasp. The other teams also need to win if they want to stay ahead of us. Some of them will also go head-to-head and they can’t both win. Theoretically, nothing hinders us and we’ll surely give it our all until the end, as we did tonight”.
