Atalanta accomplished their mission in the Lagoon by winning comfortably 3-1 over Venezia thanks to goals from Pašalić, Zapata and Muriel. The assistant coach Tullio Gritti is satisfied: “It was a great win”.
Tullio Gritti, you had to win and you did it.
“Yes, it was a great and important victory and we deserved it. We created a lot of chances, playing very well also technically, which had perhaps been the element that had penalised us in recent games. I think this victory boosts our morale and puts us back on track for the final matches, which will be important if we want to achieve an equally important goal. It’s not over yet. I think this was the perfect game”.
Pašalić’s, Zapata’s and Muriel’s goals were good ones, it’s nice to see them score again. It was also good to see that a lot of goalscoring chances were created.
“Yes, it was the old Atalanta side that we all know, the team that creates a lot of goalscoring opportunities. Perhaps we convert less than we create, but scoring three goals is great, considering that goals have been scarce lately. I think it was a great game! We created a lot of chances in the first half, but only scored one goal; that was perhaps the only bad thing. However, the lads played brilliantly today, showing grit and eagerness. It’s not that we lacked all these things in the previous matches, which we perhaps lost; the problem was with the incidents that occurred, which were against us instead of being in our favour, and then the outcome of the game was totally different from what we had seen on the pitch. The team have always played their games in a discreet manner, but if the result is bad, the opinion is always negative. On the contrary, everything was great today, and this boosts the morale of our team to continue”.
All this to continue, to take on the final matches of the season, as there is an important goal, as you said, Atalanta do believe in it.
“We’ve always believed in it. We’ll always have to do our best. If you do your best, then you achieve the maximum target, which can be the Champions League, the Europa League or the Conference League. The Conference League is also a European cup, consequently, if Atalanta qualified for it, I think it would be a good achievement. It’s clear that we aim at the one that is on a higher level, but we’ll draw conclusions on the final matchday. But we’ll be there for sure.”
