With a goal from Boga in the final minutes, the Nerazzurri also triumph at the BayArena after winning in the 1st leg against Bayer Leverkusen and qualify for the 2021-2022 UEFA Europa League quarter-finals. After a 3-2 win at the Gewiss Stadium, Atalanta win 1-0 in Germany as well.
The match was very even in the first half. The first chance was for the hosts on 8 minutes with Diaby (Musso did very well to parry the finish) and the Nerazzurri lost captain Toloi to injury during that attempt. Malinovskyi and Muriel then had a few chances, which did not worry Hradecky, though.
Bayer had a strong start to the second half and Musso had to pull off an impressive save to deny Diaby. The Germans’ pressure started increasing, with Aranguiz firing over on 52 minutes, but the Nerazzurri defenders did not give an inch until the very end and held out against Bayer. And in stoppages, Boga ran from his own half, skipped past a defender, burst into the box and beat Hradecky with a shot into the far top corner from a tight angle which sealed the victory and the qualification to the quarter-finals for Atalanta.
