After a victory in the Europa League, Atalanta got back to winning ways in the League too and especially did it at the Gewiss Stadium. Atalanta won comfortably 4-0 over Sampdoria and, as Marten de Roon said: “We needed this win”.

Marten de Roon, what a great victory! At last, we needed it at the Gewiss Stadium.

“Yes, we needed it a lot, especially at home. In the league as well because we had many difficulties. We told each other on Thursday that we had to keep on like that, especially in the league. I think we kept on like that and we produced a great display. We followed the path we started on Thursday. It was a great win today”.

What was different today? You went a gear up, as you were all over the place and ran back and forth, you never stopped.

“Yes. Especially when Malinovskyi left [to injury]. We had many midfielders on the pitch. We said we had to get a goal through midfielders, “Let’s attack all together”. We were angry, we were clear-headed, we had good final passes, completed many ball recoveries, while they [Samp] didn’t manage to get out of their half in the first half. We did really great. We needed it [a win] a lot. We’re on the right path.”

Marten, it was an amazing moment when Miranchuk scored, and you ran all together to hug him and he didn’t even celebrate it.

“You know, Miranchuk is a very shy guy. But he’s great. We see that he’s suffering and worrying about Malinovskyi. It seems to be the war between Russia and Ukraine but that’s not like that. He has a close bond with Malinovskyi, they always speak with each other, they sit together, he feels bad for him. This tells a lot about Miranchuk. He’s an awesome guy. We must support them. We must help them both. But you can see on and off the pitch that in football, in the world that there’s no space for war, for such things. It was wonderful.”
