UCL, Zappacosta and Musso review ManUtd-Atalanta

Atalanta very nearly won against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Nerazzurri were defeated 3-2 but deserved more. Here are the post-match interviews with Davide Zappacosta and Juan Musso.

Here is Davide Zappacosta’s post-match interview:

Anger, bitterness, disappointment – we feel it all at once.

“A bit of everything because we had a great start. The first half went right. We deserved the lead. We had been playing very well. Probably, we lowered our centre a bit too much in the second half. We are very angry. We feel it all, also because there were many [Atalanta] fans here. Atalanta played at such a stadium for the first time. We really wanted to win the match because of the way it started. We feel that we threw it away. This is the biggest disappointment.”

You’re playing the return match in a fortnight. What have you learned from this match that can help you in the return match?

“This match was a great experience and gives us character. We face them in a fortnight now. But there’s also the League in the middle. So, we have to put it aside right away. Of course, we’ll analyse the mistakes to improve for the next matches. We’ll focus immediately on the League.”

Davide, as they say, you shouldn’t rely on such things but if we’d been a bit luckier… Also thinking of Demiral’s injury.

“Yes, but, unfortunately, such is football, isn’t it? There are moments when it’s going a bit bad. And there are moments when luck can give you something. Of course, it’s a pity. Especially, I’m sorry for Demi [Merih Demiral]. We don’t know the extent of his injury and we hope it’s not serious. But we can’t be looking for an alibi. We know that luck comes and goes. Of course, we’ll be luckier as soon as possible. But we have to work to improve, anyway and not to hold on to bad or good luck too much and other things like that.”

And here is Juan Musso’s post-match interview:

Juan Musso, what a pity! You deserved more in this match.

“Well, they had a high-quality second half. They have great and fast players, who were fresh because they had got off the bench. It’s a pity. I don’t know if we deserved more we know that we should have scored, taken risks and played a good game to get a result. We did it at times. But there were moments when they were stronger.”

You practically had a perfect first half. Then, in the second half, Manchester United’s strength came out.

“Yes, we did a lot of things well in the first half. We played well. We managed to hold them out. We did well in the defence. Then Demi [Merih Demiral] had to go out and this played its part. He had been giving a great performance, organising, helping us a lot. It’s difficult to enter the defence, fresh from the bench, and change things at the start of the second half when everything had been going well. But we’re moving forward. There are still many games to play. There’s a half of the Group stage left to play. We’ll try hard to go through. I’m sure we can do this.”
