5 QUESTIONS ABOUT ATALANTA – 2nd ISSUE

We’re back this week again with the Trivia Tuesday, 5 questions about Atalanta to test our supporters’ knowledge. In this episode we talk records: how prepared are you on the Nerazzurri records in Serie A TIM? Let’s get started!

1) In which season did Atalanta set their record for total points in Serie A?

2106-2017 Season, 72 points

Gian Piero Gasperini’s first season as Atalanta’s coach hadn’t started off well, but after the win over Crotone and especially the 1-0 home win against Napoli, the Nerazzurri literally took off.
An unforgettable season, which culminated with the fourth place in the table with 72 points. Atalanta qualified for the following Europa League, breaking their previous record of points scored (52), established back in the 2011-2012 season.

2) Which is Atalanta’s goal scoring record in a Serie A season?

77 goals, 2018-2019 season

An even more recent record, as it was set in the 2018-2019 season, at the end of which the Nerazzurri got the third place in the table and their first historic qualification in the Champions League. Thanks also to the 23 goals scored by Duván Zapata, Atalanta finished their campaign being the best attack of the league (+3 goals over Napoli and +7 over Juve, the winners of the Scudetto) and beat their previous record of 66 goals, which dated back to the 1949-1950 season.

3) Which has been Atalanta’s best finish in Serie A?

3rd place, 2018-2019 season

Besides being full of records, the 2018-2019 season has probably been Atalanta’s best-ever season until now. The third place in the table represents their best-ever finish in the top league in 112 years of the club’s history, which also secured them their first historic UEFA Champions League appearance. This way, the Nerazzurri improved the amazing fourth place gained in the 2016-2017 season.

4) Which has been Atalanta’s widest win in Serie A?

Torino-Atalanta 0-7, 25th January 2020

This has been an amazing result, thanks to which the Nerazzurri have set a new record, overcoming the 7-1 win in Atalanta-Triestina (1951-1952) and in Atalanta-Udinese (2019-2020). The goal-spree saw Josip Iličić scoring a hat-trick, among which the quick-free kick goal from the halfway line, Luis Muriel bagging a brace, Zapata scoring a penalty and Gosens scoring a left-footed volley from outside the box.

5) Which has been Atalanta’s win record in a single Serie A season?

21 wins, 2016-2017 season

To answer the last questions, we must go back to 2016-2017, the season of the record for total points scored, in which the Nerazzurri broke another record, i.e. their win record in a single Serie A season. They obtained 21 wins at the end of that season, among which a sensational 6 consecutive winning streak: from Atalanta-Inter 2-1 on the 23rd October 2016 to Bologna-Atalanta 0-2 on the 27th November.
