Gasperini: “We have to look forward”

The match started really badly for Atalanta who immediately found themselves trailing by one goal. Gian Piero Gasperini is pragmatic when commenting on the match: “We have to look forward”.

You prepared for a match but then it immediately got messed up, as you conceded a goal within a minute.

“We set a new record. We had already conceded a goal in the opening minutes, while it had never happened within 30 seconds. It’s a pity because it happened against Milan, who are a very dangerous team. They’re also very quick. They probably have the fastest forwards in Italy together with Napoli. We allowed them to play the spaces. We weren’t very lucky in the first half either, as we didn’t manage to equalise. It would have gone in a completely different direction. Then the second goal affected the team’s morale a little.”

We must say that this Atalanta side believes in it until the end, as they fight hard and run until the end. This was tonight’s bright spot.

“Everybody, all the players had a good attitude, really. So, it makes sense in football. When you’re having a bad match and there are a few bad incidents, you lose, fair enough. We have to take the good out of this and review what we did wrong. And then start over. As we’re playing so much that we always have to look forward.”

Were Milan too strong?

“Milan are strong. Milan impressed me with their speed and technique. They’re surely strong, agile and quick. They’re always dangerous. Then it’s clear that every game has its history.”

The international break is here. Is it a good thing or was it better to continue to play?

“I’d say it’s a good thing because we had to recover a few players. We’ll see Toloi and Pessina, now. We won’t recover Gosens and Hateboer, for sure. That’s it. There’s the international break in between. But when we’ll resume, it’ll be a remarkable tour de force, especially with the two games against Manchester.”

Have you got any other news about Toloi and Pessina?

“We’ll see tomorrow for Pessina. Hopefully, we’ll get Toloi back after the break. However, when you play every three days, even if you’re out for a week, you risk skipping some matches.”
