2020-2021 review: Remo Freuler

Remo Freuler was one of the players with the most appearances in the 2020-2021 season. He also was the Nerazzurri midfielder that ran the most kilometres: 46 matches played (he is the third in the squad) in all competitions (34 in Serie A TIM, 7 in the UEFA Champions League, 5 in the Coppa Italia), 2 goals scored and 4 assists provided. Both goals were scored in the league: the first – very important – one was the 1-1 equalizer away to Juventus on matchday 8, while the second one contributed to the 5-0 home victory over Bologna on matchday 33. Among the assists, the one that stands out is the beauty delivered in Amsterdam in the decisive match against Ajax to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16, a sort of manifesto: he recovered the ball in the third half and immediately sent Muriel through. Finally, here are the official statistics of Lega Serie A about the league: 2,843 minutes played (second in the team ranking), an average of 11,083 km run per game (first in the team ranking), 126 ball recoveries, 19 shots, 9 goalscoring chances created, 5 key passes, 33 fouls suffered.

But Remo also hit some important personal landmark, such as the 200th match with the Nerazzurri shirt which coincided with the 4-2 victory over Napoli and, recently, the call-up to Switzerland to participate in the next European Championships. The two goals he scored with his national team in the UEFA Nations League draws against Germany and Spain were the icing on the cake this season.
